Exploring the area

We are close to the village of Grand Brassac, only 2km, which has a lovely cafe and restaurant situated beneath the 13th century church. The surrounding towns of St Victor and Montagrier both have their own Auberge (restaurant) with great home-cooked meals and a good wine selection. Verteillac, a 10-minute drive away, has a nice boulangerie and a variety of cafes and restaurants, as well as a bank, pharmacy, and monthly Brocante. Riberac, the nearest town, is famed for its Friday market, the largest in the area, which features a broad selection of local produce, including local arts and crafts; it has a great atmosphere and is attended by both residents and tourists.
Perigueux, only 30 min away, is the capital of the Perigord region and it dates back 2000 years to Roman times. It is a beautiful city with a Cathedral, Roman ruins, and a museum. It features a wonderful collection of medieval cobbled streets, many local artisan shops, clothes shops, cafes and bars. It has weekly markets held on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.
Within a short drive, you may visit Bourdeilles, a very attractive riverside village with a castle and chateaux to see. Brantome, a picturesque town nestled on the banks of the Dronne with its famous 18th century abbey, caverns, and many restaurants, cafes, and shops, is just a little further on. This is also a fantastic place to rent a canoe and explore the river that encircle the town, as well as have a picnic and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
The famed Grotte de Villars is only 10 minutes from Brantome and features spectacular calcite formations in underground caves as well as authentic artwork dating back 18000 years. Aubeterre, one of France’s most picturesque villages, is a 30-minute drive away. You may walk up the small cobbled street to the lovely square, which is lined with cafes, restaurants, and gift shops. You can also see one of France’s oldest churches, established in the 11th century.

A great location...
A little further on, you’ll come across the famous Les Eyzies and Lascaux caves. Sarlat and Roccamadour are two more magnificent world heritage sites. A visit to the vineyards and the lovely town of St Emillion is a must for wine lovers.
